Integrated Geomatics Inc. has a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Environmental Field Technician to join our growing environment team based out of Calgary, Edmonton or Grande Prairie, Alberta. In this position, the successful applicant will complete various environmental assessments including, but not limited to biophysical assessments, pre-construction wildlife sweeps, fish habitat assessments, and water quality monitoring. The successful applicant will work for extended periods in remote locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform biophysical assessments, including the classification and delineation of wetlands and watercourses as well as the identification of key wildlife features.
- Complete other environmental fieldwork as required, including but not limited to pre-construction wildlife sweeps, fish habitat assessments, and water quality monitoring.
- Exhibit strong communication skills by liaising with clients and by providing progress updates to project managers and coordinators that effectively emphasize key findings.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior staff.
- Analyze and interpret field data, and prepare data summaries, reports, etc. that present field data in an organized manner.
- Promote a high standard of safety by adhering to applicable safety protocols and actively participating in the Health and Safety Program.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree or diploma in biological sciences or a related field.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in remote locations, operate snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles, and be physically capable of working in various environmental conditions.
- Important skills for this role include vegetation identification, soil classification, as well as having a strong knowledge of wildlife ecology as well as fish and fish habitat.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically, evaluate solutions, and make sound decisions in a rapid-paced environment.
- Preference will be given to applicants who hold or are eligible for a professional designation (e.g., RPF, R.T.Biol., P.Biol., P.Ag., etc.) and/or who are a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES).
All field equipment, tools, and a vehicle will be provided.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
