Be part of delivering exceptional weddings at Brock House, one of Vancouver’s most iconic waterfront venues located at Jericho Beach. This is a hands-on, service-focused role where you’ll take the lead in event-day execution, ensuring dishes are finished, plated, and sent out smoothly and on time. Working alongside our experienced events and in-house team, you’ll play a key role in coordinating the kitchen during service while maintaining the quality and consistency of Peake’s standards. Initial training will take place in our main catering kitchen to ensure you are set up for success on-site.
About the Position
The role of Lead Event Chef is an exciting opportunity for an experienced culinary professional to support and execute on-site event service during our busy wedding season, at Brock House. This position is best suited for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, is highly organized, and takes pride in delivering consistent, high-quality food during service.You will be responsible for executing a range of event styles including plated dinners, family-style service, and canapés, while leading and working with a team of 2–8 chefs to ensure events run smoothly from start to finish.
Major Responsibilities
- Execute event menus on-site, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to event schedules
- Coordinate with the in-house Executive Chef/Sous Chef to ensure all menus, timelines, and dietary requirements are clearly understood and followed
- Oversee final preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes, ensuring consistency and quality across all plates
- Support and guide a team of chefs (2–8) during service to maintain efficiency and flow
- Work closely with the event manager and service staff to ensure smooth and well-timed food service
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during preparation or service
- Manage kitchen organization and workflow during events
- Oversee breakdown after service, ensuring proper food handling, storage, and cleanliness standards are maintained.
- Ensure adherence to all culinary, safety, and sanitation standards (including HACCP)
Education, Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in catering, banquet, or high-volume kitchens
- FoodSafe certification required
- Red Seal an Asset
- Strong understanding of plated, family-style, buffet, and canapé service
- Experience working events or services with tight timelines
- Ability to stay organized and composed in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to event sites is an asset
- Qualified demeanor and appearance
Ongoing Expectations and Physical/Mental Demands
- This role requires lifting of supplies, equipment, and product
- This position requires long periods of standing and moving
- Frequent interruptions from team members while multitasking daily duties
- Immediate environment will frequently be noisy, fast-paced, and high-pressure
- Ongoing exposure to normal kitchen hazards (ovens, sharp objects, slippery surfaces)
- Tight timelines and quick transitions during service
- This is a seasonal position (May–September) with shifts primarily scheduled Friday through Sunday.
