Education Requirements

14. Replace hazardous drug bins when required.
15. Complete monthly inspection reports in conjunction with other staff; perform weekly inspection of eye wash stations.
16. Operate mechanical lifts and utilize assistive devices as directed.
17. Participate in inventory control procedures and order verification as required.
18. Order and restock direct purchases of department supplies as required.
19. Monitor and restock Reprocessing department inventory.
20. Enter requisitions for maintenance of equipment and building services as required.
21. Provide patient care within Personal Support Worker scope of practice as required.
22. Follow policies/standards pertaining to the safe handling and disposal of hazardous drug waste.
23. Prepare exam rooms and ensure dirty linen is disposed of as per HSN policies. 24. Complete Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) forms with patients as required.
25. Follow established work standards for each specific department (radiation, chemo, clinics).
26. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
27. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
28. Participate in hospital training as required.
29. Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
30. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a Personal Support Worker Certificate from an accredited college.
2. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate is required.

Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Gentle persuasion approaches (GPA) to dementia care are preferred.
4. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of six (6) months’ experience working as a Personal Support Worker in a hospital environment, preferably in an oncology setting.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Asepsis.
2. Demonstrated ability to safely handle equipment, materials and loads of up to18 kilograms.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.
