The City of Iqaluit is looking for a skilled and experienced individual to join our growing team and city as the Building Maintainer Title: Building Maintainer Department: Public Works Status: Full time, Permanent Salary: $31.61/per hour 35 hour/week Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum Union Status: Unionized Housing: No Staff Housing Available Closing Date: Open until filled This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.
Under the direction of the Facility Manager, the Building Maintainer shall provide maintenance and repair services to the City of Iqaluit owned buildings i.e Arenas, City Hall, Aquatic Centre, Youth Centre, Curling Rink, Abe Okpik Hall, Garage, City housing units, Fire Hall, Public Works buildings and any and all owned buildings or facilities at various sites.
Build required items including stairs, specialty furniture, and other items.
Construct and maintain structural woodwork, shelving, flooring, tables, chairs, etc.
Perform renovations as required, build and install cupboards, bookcases, tack boards etc. and repairing furniture.
Prepare, paint and decorate interior and exterior surfaces as required.
Performing minor construction work.
Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations.
Operate and Maintain carpentry tools and equipment.
Required Qualifications: Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, Journeyperson Carpenter preferred; Knowledge and experience of carpentry, building maintenance and minor repairs; Knowledge and experience of safe operation of basic hand and power tools; Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures; The ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner; Client service and public interaction skills; Effective time management skills with the ability to multi

task and establish priorities; First aid and CPR; Strong mathematical and analytical skills; Must posses a valid class 5 drivers license The ideal candidate must prove to be reliable and punctual, must be able to work with minimal supervision and/or within a team atmosphere, and must be willing to work in harsh outdoor weather conditions.
They must have the ability to follow instructions, perform duties safely and quickly and be able to work under time constraints.
Compensation for this position will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.
All relevant certifications are required at time of application.
The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, as well as an acceptable Drivers Abstract.
