This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.
As this is a term position until August 4, 2028, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and serving as a member of the management team of the Health Information Unit (HIU), the Director eHealth leads a team of skilled professionals and analysts to manage the health technology function throughout Nunavut. This position provides oversight in the establishment and maintenance of the eHealth (electronic health record and Telehealth) programs and information systems in each community.
Responsibilities
The Director serves as a member of the senior management team for the HIU and plays a key role in planning, implementing, and supporting new information systems to meet the Department’s evolving information requirements including:
- The Director guides the integration of Telehealth and all eHealth related services into practice – a combination of large-scale systems integration and adjustments to practice patterns requiring close collaboration with the Operations branch, commercial vendors, inter-jurisdictional partners and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut.
- The Director’s has the ability to reduce costs in an overall Departmental annual budget of $300 million by identifying technological solutions that result in more efficient operations.
- The Director is accountable for developing the processes used to identify priority information needs to support clinical and administrative and decision making.
- The Director is accountable to the CIO to provide strategic input, advice and recommendations to senior management and program team on systems solutions to departmental information needs and implementation thereof.
- The Director facilitates the identification and development of functional and technological requirements for systems and innovation for the Community Health Centers and Headquarters.
- The Director leads the development and implementation of an expanding Telehealth/Telematics program.
- The Director is responsible for ensuring that the Department meets its reporting and accountability obligations with high standards of quality and accuracy.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and experience required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate degree in health care, business administration, information technology, or relevant field, along with a minimum of five (5) years relevant progressive experience across multiple disciplines including health informatics, project management, and strategic planning in agile, complex, multi-stakeholder workplace. A master’s degree in a related field along with previous work experience in rural, remote, and indigenous setting are considered as assets. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
