\nABOUT THE POSITION:\nWe are seeking an experienced and passionate Addictions Counsellor to join our in-patient treatment team. This position will support clients and our clinical team by facilitating individual and group counselling sessions while responding to individual client needs while on-shift. This position is required to work in a stressful environment often dealing with clients in crisis situations, therefore the ability to function independently and frequently under pressure while managing multiple duties, including emergency situations, is an expectation of this job.\n
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:

\n
- Minimum education: college diploma specific to addictions and mental health training and an addiction counselling certificate (e.g., ICADC from CACCF).
\n
- University degree in social work or psychology is an asset.
\n
- Knowledge of social work, psychology, and addiction counselling best practices and a proven ability to work in an intensive, inpatient treatment environment.
\n
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working as an addiction’s counsellor.
\n
- Inpatient experience is an asset
\n
- Current First Aid and CPR training certificate.
\n
- Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention training is an asset.
\n
- Able to work independently and provide detailed and accurate daily reports.
\n
- A people person with great problem solving, decision making, and critical thinking skills.
\n
- Maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities by keeping up to date regarding professional standards through reviewing current literature, attending workshops/seminars and networking with colleagues.
\n
\nYOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\n
\n
- Ability to communicate in an empathic, compassionate, supportive, and skilled manner with clients while on shift.
\n
- Provide assistance and support to residence activities and functions of day-to-day centre operations.
\n
- Assist with client intake process.
\n
- Provide counselling and conduct crisis management, and interventions as needed.
\n
- Lead/co-lead psychoeducational and skill building groups for clients.
\n
- Promote continual community building and the application of recovery-based skills.
\n
- Monitor client behaviours and interactions while on shift, documenting observations and interactions in a timely and accurate manner.
\n
- Report to the Program Manager and work alongside an interdisciplinary services team.
\n
- Participate in regular interdisciplinary team meetings and ensure effective communication between/across shifts in support of individual client needs

- Participate in team building and service development.
\n
- Ability to complete tasks independently
