Job Description
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of assigned service center(s) and leading a cross-functional team in delivering high-quality fire and life safety solutions. This role requires a strong blend of leadership, technical expertise, and business acumen to drive sustainable growth, operational excellence, and a robust safety-first culture.
The General Manager manages both union and non-union personnel, ensures compliance with all applicable local, provincial, and national fire codes and standards, and maintains a strong focus on customer satisfaction. Working closely with executive leadership and corporate partners, the General Manager develops and executes strategies that enhance profitability, operational efficiency, and long-term organizational success.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Safety Culture Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, ensuring timely, professional resolution of inquiries, concerns, and feedback. Proactively identify and implement opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction, retention, and loyalty through value-added services and solutions. Champion a strong safety culture across all service and project activities, ensuring technicians consistently follow safe work practices and regulatory requirements. Promote and reinforce safety reporting, including near-miss reporting, incident investigations, and corrective actions to drive continuous improvement in field operations.
Leadership & Team Management Drive the strategic vision for the service center(s) while operating effectively at both a tactical, day-to-day level and a higher-level oversight role; seamlessly flexing between the two as required. Lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of technicians, project managers, sales professionals, and administrative staff. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement across union and non-union teams. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and support employee development and succession planning. Ensure effective labor relations and alignment with applicable union collective bargaining agreements.
Business Development & Sales Leadership Develop and execute strategic business plans to drive significant revenue growth and market expansion within the assigned territory. Lead, manage, and hold the sales team accountable for performance, pipeline development, and achievement of revenue targets. Actively contribute to sales efforts through individual involvement in key accounts, strategic pursuits, and high-value opportunities. Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, prospecting, partnerships, and relationship building. Strengthen relationships with existing clients to expand service offerings, increase wallet share, and improve long-term retention.
Project & Operational Management Oversee the execution of service and project work from inception through completion, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. Coordinate closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve operational and project-related challenges. Monitor project and service profitability, taking proactive measures to manage costs, mitigate risks, and improve financial performance. Ensure operational processes align with corporate standards while meeting local market needs.
