Senior Labour and Employee Relations Advisor

Responsibilities:
- Provides coaching, guidance, advice, and facilitates training to managers on a variety of employee and labour relations issues, including labour and employment law, HR policies and practices, performance management, attendance management, grievance and dispute resolution, progressive discipline, organizational changes, and administration of the collective agreement.
- Assesses employee pain points proactively and, in consultation with management, develops workable solutions. Reviews trends with management and recommends actions to ensure positive organizational changes and continued employee engagement.
- Conducts investigations on employee relations matters such as discipline, work performance, attendance management, bullying and harassment, and coordinates appropriate corrective action.
- Creates employee communications and letters pertaining to collective agreement administration, (i.e., grievance responses, investigation correspondence, disciplinary correspondence, workplace accommodations).
- Provides coaching including documenting performance and absenteeism matters, establishing performance improvement plans and preparing termination documentation for unionized employees when required.
- Ensures adherence and compliance to policies and programs related to Labour Relations strategy, collective agreement, labour codes, health and safety and all other applicable bodies and support the development and make recommendations to Human Resources policies and programs and collective agreements.
- Provides support to management through the grievance and arbitration process through all stages.
- Tracks and reports metrics related to performance, absenteeism, and other labour relations matters for management. Provides recommendations for management based on metrics.
- Builds and manages a harmonious partnership with the HR team, PBC management, union, and other stakeholders.
- Reviews employee complaints and ensures accurate and timely documentation of concerns or issues.
- Participates, implements, and supports key initiatives as outlined in the Labour Relations strategy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Business with a major in Human Resources, or equivalent discipline.
- 5 – 8 years of experience in a Labour Relations capacity, advising managers on all employee relations matters in a unionized environment including performance management, administrative and progressive discipline processes, grievance management, conflict resolution, and terminations.
- Extensive knowledge of labour relations and related employment legislation and practice.
- Solid analytical skills.

- Excellent time management skills.
- A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, or equivalent.
