Job Description
Recreation and Culture department is looking for an experienced seasonal Greenspace Labourer - Plant Maintenance for Greenspace beautification plant and shrub maintenance tasks to maintain municipal reserve land and other green spaces in the County. The Plant Maintenance Labourer will primarily support the Plant & Tree Specialist and could be allocated elsewhere or to another Recreation and Culture seasonal crew at any time. This position is required to work from May to October 2026.
Job Duties:
- Plant maintenance duties may consist of weeding, watering, planting, pruning, rototilling and site cleanup.
- Other general plant maintenance clean up duties including but not limited to: cutting trees (no bigger than 6”), trimming branches, raking leaves, applying fertilizer and pesticides by hand/backpack.
- Safely operate small engine machines – such as trimmers, hedge trimmers, hand blowers, brush saws, rototillers etc. and the use of various hand tools in order to perform beautification maintenance tasks in greenspaces including parks and around County buildings
- Confidently hook up and unhook a trailer
- Load and unload trucks with supplies and equipment
- Assist in routine maintenance and repair of all equipment used
- Assist with litter clean up, brush cutting, grass repair, rototilling, painting and general maintenance
Qualifications
- A valid Class 5 driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
- Standard First Aid Certificate Preferred
- Minimum one year of experience of related landscaping, plant maintenance or weed management work
- Previous experience operating small engine machines or lawn maintenance equipment
- Authorized Assistant pesticide spraying certification preferred; if not training will be provided.
- Physically capable for general outdoor labour duties for an eight-hour shift.
- May be required to perform work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and inclement weather.
- Ability to deal with members of the public in a professional manner
- Willingness to undertake training to meet operational requirements
The successful applicants will be team players with good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. You will be a self-starter who can contribute positively to the team environment.
Additional Information
Term Length: This position works from May to October 2026.
Work Schedule: This position works 40 hours per week. Weekends and Stat holidays off.
Hourly Pay: $29.27 to $34.43.
