Role Context
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation. Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops, BC.\n
Role Overview
Reporting to the Superintendent, Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Mine Life Expansion Project (MLE) Operational Readiness, the Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I;) Commissioning Lead is responsible for planning and execution of the Electrical, Instrumentation and Process Control Commissioning of the MLE Project. The Commissioning phase will come in waves, with a particular focus in Q4 2026 and Q4 2027. This is an 18-24 month contract role, with consideration for continuing employment with the operation at the conclusion of Commissioning.\n
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Develop and refine E&I; Commissioning Plan that aligns the Pre-Operational Testing Plan;
- Develop and refine systemization and tie-in lists
- Build a commissioning schedule that aligns with construction and pre-ops testing
- Manage the resolution of punches by category, ensuring that assets are turned over to HVC with a minimum of remaining work
- Monitor progress on PLC programming and PCS development. Brownfield PLC programming is done by HVC electricians; Greenfield by contractors; all PCS by HVC employees.
- Monitor Construction verification activities and Pre-Operational Testing to minimize punches that carry through to Commissioning
- Resolve punches that carry through to Commissioning
- Communicate effectively with the Mill Maintenance, Operations, Planning & Reliability teams during the Commissioning process
- Ensure turnover packs are complete and information handover is effective
- Ensure baseline condition monitoring is executed correctly for electrical systems
- Conduct RCFA’s when required for early failures
- Ensure Commissioning spares are transferred to the warehouse
- Other responsibilities as required or as assigned
Qualifications
- University degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant Technology program or Trade
- Recognized leader with strong planning, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness; proven ability to influence
- Results oriented and adept at finding effective solutions
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to manage and/or work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with the operation of a concentrator and strong technical understanding of mills, feeders, conveyors, pumps and other processing equipment

Pay Range: CAD $119,000 - $147,000 per year The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.\n
Working Conditions
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, with close proximity to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car; carpooling is common among team members.
