Public Works Superintendent
The Town of Baie Verte is seeking the services of a Public Works Superintendent. We are looking for a proven leader who will provide executive management and strategic direction to Town’s Public Works Department. A leader who will facilitate continued growth while providing quality service to the citizens of the town.
Position Overview:
This individual will be expected to work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer in dealing with the public, working with developers, and conferring with the Town’s Engineering Consultants. The Superintendent will offer assistance and direction in ensuring understanding and compliance with the development and maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure, and for the provision of services relating to operations and public works. The Superintendent of Public Works assumes responsibility for a wide variety of duties related to the management and supervision of outside operations, municipal facilities and infrastructure, capital works, water maintenance, and public works. It is expected that this person will respond to the public on issues pertaining to the department, and provide direction and advice on all matters related to these essential municipal services. The Superintendent attends Public Works committee meetings and provides professional advice and direction to Council and senior staff on issues or concerns related to the following: outside operations, services, snow clearing operations, roads maintenance, municipal enforcement, animal control, municipal infrastructure, the Town’s water supply, sewage systems, and other critical areas of operations and public works.
Qualifications:
As Public Works Superintendent, you will report directly to the CAO; the successful candidate must have completed a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) program or an equivalent (or higher) program of studies,
and/or must have at least five years practical experience in a municipal environment or a related field. Other equivalencies maybe be considered. The successful candidate must possess a general knowledge and understanding of outside operations, public works, underground infrastructure, snow clearing, roads maintenance, and other essential municipal services. Working knowledge of modern computer technology and software packages such as AutoCAD and GIS based technology would be an asset for this position, as would experience in supervising and directing a unionized workforce. The successful candidate must possess solid leadership and organizational skills, as well as good oral and written communication skills.
Starting Salary: $70,000
