Public Affairs Officer (Westminster) Salary: £36,225 per annum plus benefits. Grade: P2. Reports to: Public Affairs Manager (Westminster). Directorate: Policy, Information and Communications. Contract: Permanent. Hours: 35 hours per week; compressed hours is an option. Location: Stratford, London. External closing date: 26 April 2026, 23:55. Internal closing date: 29 April 2026, 23:55. Cancer Research UK is not able to offer visa sponsorship.What will I be doing?Deliver and report on a programme of activities to ensure Cancer Research UK has a high profile in Westminster and that our policy priorities remain on the parliamentary agenda, including managing a rolling contact programme for MPs.Lead a programme of influencing activity to advance the prevention agenda, supporting public affairs activities across research and the cancer pathway.Organise events in parliament, at party conferences, at research sites and at a constituency level as required.React swiftly and expertly to parliamentary business, brief appropriately, and understand how procedures such as debates and questions can be instigated and supported for maximum impact.Proactively seek opportunities to meet, brief and work with wider networks including peers, coalitions and sector experts.Promote the charity’s wider work, including events such as Race for Life, research successes and engaging MPs on how cancer impacts their constituency and community.What skills will I need?Demonstrable political interest and judgement, with commitment to neutrality and ability to work across the political spectrum.Ability to quickly understand, summarise and analyse complex policy and political issues and distil them for a range of internal and external audiences.Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to adapt style to different audiences.Solid organisational skills and experience of managing a complex workload, with tight deadlines and often changing priorities.Good influencing skills and confidence managing challenging stakeholder relationships, including in coalition.Adaptable self‑starter with the ability to work remotely and in a self‑directed way as part of a larger team.Internal Applicants' Eligibility Criteria Internal candidates should ideally have completed their 6‑month getting started period before applying for other roles.You should advise your current line manager at the point you submit an internal application, or at the latest, at the time of an interview invitation.All internal candidates applying for a secondment must have:Completed their getting started period.Discussed their intention to apply and gained approval to apply with their line manager.Been in their substantive (home) role for at least 6 months (this applies only if you have previously been on secondment).Organisational values: Bold – Act with ambition, courage and determination; Credible – Act with rigour and professionalism; Human – Act to have a positive impact on people; Together – Act inclusively and collaboratively.#J
