About the role:
The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC)

As the Second Cook you will work directly with the First Cook to oversee food production within our
Cook‑Chill/Cook‑Serve Food Preparation system. You will follow standardized recipes and be expected to adhere to
and maintain high levels of Food Safety and Health & Safety practices, as well as follow organizational policies and
procedures. You will assist in the oversight of Food Quality standards to ensure high level standards are adhered to,
and maintained throughout day‑to‑day production. The ideal candidate should be a team player; have the ability to
mutli‑task; and have a good knowledge and understanding of the food service industry.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
*Completion of a recognized Cook apprenticeship program, an Approved Cook's Training Course with Red Seal
Certification, or other formal culinary training
*Demonstrated recent experience working as a Cook in a healthcare, institutional, or high‑volume food service
environment
*High level of knowledge and understanding of the HACCP program/standards is essential.
*Current Safe Food Handling course required.
*Knowledge of computer software and large quantity production equipment (ie. Ovens, Grills, Mixers, Blenders,
Steam Kettles, Skillets, Meat Slicers, etc).
Skills/Abilities:
*Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to read and write English
*Knowledgeable about Canada's Food Guide and therapeutic diets
*Position involves physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving hot, heavy items (up to 20 kg) and
standing for prolonged periods
*Must be able to work accurately, quickly and safely
*Must have demonstrated leadership skills.
*Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Assets:
*Five years' experience working in a large quantity kitchen.
*Understanding of working within budget.
Salary Range: $30.004 to 30.554
