Required Experience

Pharmacy assistants perform various medication related duties including: distribution and packaging of medications; management and replenishment of medication inventory levels; and moderately complex clerical duties in accordance with standard procedure. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: Inventory management including ordering, receiving, and storage or medications (including automated dispensing machines). Packaging and repackaging of medications. Filling medication orders, (including patient specific medications, ward stock, code and other trays). Delivering medications/ documents to/from patient care areas and pharmacy. Prepare and compound medications under supervision. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify medication inventory, storage and distribution issues. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as narcotic control. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required. PLEASE NOTE: This position is located outside the Calgary City Limits and will be based out of Strathmore, Alberta.
As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Working knowledge of Pharmacy terms and medication names. Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or Recent Retail or hospital pharmacy experience acceptable to the employer. Experience with Windows
