Land conservation, Natural resource management Position: Executive Director Organization: Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust Location: Hybrid (Office location: 10970 Highway 7, Carleton Place, ON), but flexibility in remote vs office as primary workspace About The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust (MMLT) is a non‑profit conservation organization taking direct action to legally protect and steward ecologically sensitive lands across the Mississippi River watershed, north to the Madawaska River. MMLT currently owns or manages 17 properties encompassing nearly 4300 acres. Some of our properties are open to the public to enjoy the trails and nature, while some are reserved for research and educational purposes.

We are currently headquartered in the offices of the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority in Carleton Place, Ontario. In addition to the Executive Director, MMLT staff includes a full‑time Conservation Coordinator, full‑time Development and Communications Coordinator, and part‑time Bookkeeper.

Role And Responsibilities Develop annual operational plans, manage and coordinate all day‑to‑day land trust operational activities to support achievement of MMLT’s mission and strategic objectives. Act as advisor to the Board on all aspects of MMLT’s advancement, acquisitions, programs, operations, and activities. Keep the Board apprised of operational issues, risks, and opportunities in a timely manner.

Work with the Board to develop and implement appropriate policies and procedures, including the multi‑year Strategic Plan and annual budget. Act as the key spokesperson for MMLT in interactions with donors, community groups, the government, other conservation organizations, and other external stakeholders. Oversee public outreach and communications through the MMLT website, social media, newsletters, brochures, email, the press, and educational events.

Develop, implement, and monitor fundraising strategies and activities, including identifying grant opportunities and submitting grant proposals. Administer the organization’s funds according to the budget developed in conjunction with and approved by the Board. Direct the day‑to‑day activities of MMLT staff.

Create and direct the activities of operating committees comprised of staff and volunteers. Ensure property stewardship is carried out according MMLT bylaws and policies. Ensure that the organization maintains compliance with external legislative, regulatory, grant‑related, and property stewardship requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications &
\n
Experience Deep commitment to the conservation of natural resources. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in non‑profit management or in a related field. Demonstrated successful record of fundraising and managing a budget.
\n
Leadership experience, able to set a clear vision and to create and thrive in a team environment. Strong communication, organizational, financial, and people management skills. Proven skills in developing partnerships, initiating connections, and building relationships.

Experience and/or training in land conservation and natural resource management is an asset. Equity and Accessibility
