\nNewmont is seeking a motivated\n
Engineer in Training, Workplace to join the Environmental Department at the Brucejack Mine. Reporting to the Director, HSE Environment via the Lead Environment, you will support environmental compliance, water treatment operations, and field monitoring programs. This role offers strong development potential with hands‑on exposure to potable water treatment, sewage treatment, mine water management, air quality monitoring, waste management, and regulatory compliance in a remote mining environment.

As part of our team you will
\n
Support the operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of potable water systems, sewage treatment plants (STPs), and the mine water treatment plant (WTP).
\n
Provide operator coverage for STPs and the WTP (training provided).
\n
Conduct environmental field monitoring, including water sampling, hydrology measurements, air quality monitoring, and meteorological data collection.
\n
Assist in achieving mine water discharge limits through underground water quality management and surface water diversion support.
\n
Perform data analysis, QA/QC, and prepare technical reports for internal and regulatory submissions.
\n
Support soil remediation, waste handling, incinerator operations, and spill response activities.
\n
Participate in regulatory inspections, site tours, and communication with agencies such as the BC Ministry of Environment, Northern Health, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
\n
Maintain compliance with Newmont environmental and safety standards and all applicable regulations.
\n
Participate in daily safety processes, including hazard identification and adherence to site procedures.
\n
Prerequisites For Your Success In This Role
\n
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering (or Civil/Chemical Engineering with environmental focus).
\n
Registered, or eligible for registration, as an EIT with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
\n
Understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes.
\n
Knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques and regulatory requirements.
\n
Experience with environmental data management and sampling.
\n
Familiarity with tools such as EQUIS, Aquarius, QGIS, or similar.
\n
Experience in environmental fieldwork, industrial operations, or remote mining (asset).
\n
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
\n
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
\n
Ability to work safely and independently in remote field conditions.
\n
Comfort operating field equipment (boats, snowmobiles, quads, 4x4 trucks) is an asset.
\n
Ability to work in a remote FIFO camp environment.
\n
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in extreme weather.
\n
Must pass pre‑employment medical and drug/alcohol testing.
\n
