Deputy Director, Recreation Services and Facilities About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Parks + Recreation, the Deputy Director provides senior strategic leadership and operational oversight for the City’s Recreation Services and Facilities division. The role is accountable for achieving departmental and divisional outcomes while ensuring alignment with City objectives, policies, and regulatory requirements. The position works in close partnership with the Director and Deputy Director of Parks, Policy and Planning to provide a unified vision and support for the department.
The Deputy Director co‑leads the implementation of the recently adopted 10‑Year People, Parks and Play Plan, contributes to corporate‑wide decision‑making and policy development, and fosters a culture of community belonging centered on diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism.
Key responsibilities include:
Guiding and overseeing the Recreation Services and Facilities Division to meet the needs of a rapidly growing community, ensuring recreational services remain accessible, impactful and strategically aligned.
Managing and developing a high‑performing team, providing coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, regulations, and best practices in recreation service delivery.
Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to secure funding, partnerships and resources that support Recreation goals.
Providing strategic input to the City on recreation planning, budgeting and capital projects.
Representing the City in community forums, panel discussions and advisory committees.
Qualifications
Preferred candidate: university degree in Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership or related field, with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive responsibility in recreation services, including significant supervisory and leadership experience. Completion of supplemental courses or certificate in business management, human resources, or leadership is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary for this position is $168,822 – $186,178 supplemented by a comprehensive compensation and perks plan.
