The Strong families program, under contract by Children's Services, uses Signs of Safety and strengths-based approach, to support youth & families in Slave Lake and area with developing healthy interpersonal skills, self-esteem, conflict management, parenting, home management, financial skills, and overcoming barriers such as addictions and mental health.
In Your Role You Will
- Provides flexible and responsive support to address children, youth, family or caregiver needs.
- Supports the drives and supervised visits that are required from our CFS partnerships. Through R&E;'s and Fee for Service Contracts.
- Conducts family visits in the community or where the R&E;/Fee for Services has indicated by the contractual agreement
- Casual positions are often available for evening/weekend visits and/or on requested per their flexible schedules.
- Causal staff have the option if agreed upon to be placed on the On Call List to fill an on-going rotation.
- Casual Family Support Workers must have a reliable vehicle that can assist with driving up to 4 passengers should a company vehicle not be available.
- Accommodates and respects cultural, social and religious heritage.
- Collaborates and/or works as team with Full time Family Support Workers, Managers and Directors as well as CFS Partners and partnering agencies.
- Completes all documentation required (case notes, vehicle logs, etc) as per specifications and deadlines. (24 hours)
- Adheres to protocols that relate to abuse and appropriately reports safety concerns.
- Represents Taproot with professionalism and respect within our communities.
- Adheres to ethical/professional standards, performing all program activities in accordance with Taproot policies and procedures as well as program specific policies, Children and Family policies, accreditation and core standards.
The Position
The Family Support Worker (FSW) works directly with families, youth and children to provide therapeutic interventions under the Family and Community Supports division. This position reports to the program manager/supervisor.
The FSW Worker will be available on a casual/on-call basis to support families, youth and children through challenges and/or provide safe, reliable transportation to supervised family visits, appointments, etc.
Must be prepared to travel and be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
**Qualification requirements deem this to be Family Support Worker level 2.**

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- A passion for working with families within your community
- Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Addictions, etc.
- 1+ years social work experience in family supports, intervention, youth work, trauma informed care, addictions, kinship/foster care, etc.
- Valid Driver’s License, reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance (transportation of person served up to 4 passengers), and clean driver’s abstract
- Awareness of applicable community resources to meet client needs
- Knowledge of indigenous culture is an asset
- Experience working with computer software systems
- Highly motivated and able to work independently
