Reporting to the Executive Director, the Food Service Supervisor provides overall leadership and direction for the Food Service Department. Ensures that residents receive safe, nutritious, and high-quality meals that meet individual dietary needs while promoting a positive dining experience. This position ensures compliance with regulatory standards, organizational policies, and best practices to support the health, well-being, and satisfaction of residents.
This position involves both office-based work and active presence in all areas of nutrition and food service operations within the home. Worked hours are aligned to meet the operational requirements of the home. The employee must be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. Interacts daily with residents, staff, and visitors, requiring professionalism, patience, and solid communication skills. At all times must follow infection control, food safety, and occupational health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Food Service Manager, as directed, to plan, organize and provide high-quality dietary services for residents of each facility.
- Apply continuous quality improvement principles, best practices, and standardization to workflow, performance, production, and changes to service and dietary requirements to meet legislative requirements.
- Select, supervise and motivate dietary staff; ensure dietary staff work as a team, ensure a high level of productivity and better use of staff capabilities.
- Ensure the environment of all food preparation and storage areas meets Public Health requirements.
- Maintain all records in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements, including the implementation and posting of all regular and therapeutic menus.
- Liaise and consult with residents, families, team members, government officials, and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities
- Participate in the budgeting process; be accountable for the departmental budget and food costs.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Current membership with the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) or the College of Dietitians of Ontario required.
- Experience supervising employees in a unionized environment
- Strong leadership skills to direct the work of employees.
- Superb organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety practices, principles, and legislation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Customer-focused with a high emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with clients.
- A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of hire date.
- Completion of a 2 Step TB Skin test within the last 12 months.
