Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism, a Biosphere-certified organization, is offering four summer student positions designed to give early-career professionals meaningful, hands-on experience in tourism development, sustainability, accessibility, and regional resilience.
These roles are for students who care about this regionâits land, its communities, and its futureâand want to contribute to real work that supports both people and place.
This is not a traditional summer job. It is structured, supported, and purpose-driven work where students are mentored, trained, and trusted with meaningful responsibilities that support regional tourism systems and community resilience.
Each role offers a different focus area, but all contribute to the same goal: building a stronger, more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient tourism region.
Program Overview
Students will be placed in one of four roles:
- Youth Tourism Sustainability Program Coordinator (Sustainability Focus)
- Emergency Preparedness Planner (Resilience & Emergency Management Focus)
- Tourism Development Officer (Accessibility Focus)
- Tourism Development Officer (Research & Destination Development Focus)
All roles are designed as learning-focused, supervised positions with structured mentorship, clear deliverables, and ongoing support.
1. Youth Tourism Sustainability Program Coordinator
This role focuses on environmental sustainability, community projects, and tourism operator engagement.
Focus Areas
- Sustainability data and certification support
- Regional environmental initiatives
- Municipal and operator coordination
- Sustainability research and reporting
- Communications and newsletter content
Youâll Gain
Experience in sustainability program delivery, environmental stewardship, stakeholder engagement, and applied reporting.
2. Emergency Preparedness Planner (Youth Summer Position)
This role supports regional emergency readiness, business continuity, and community resilience systems.
Focus Areas
- Emergency Support Services (ESS) support
- Accommodation availability tracking
- Situational awareness and monitoring
- Emergency planning support for tourism operators
- Food resiliency initiatives
- Emergency management meetings and reporting
Youâll Gain
Experience in emergency management systems, coordination under pressure, communication protocols, and regional resilience planning.
3. Tourism Development Officer (Accessibility)
This role focuses on inclusive tourism, accessibility data, and improving visitor experiences for all.
Focus Areas
- Accessibility data management and database updates
- On-site accessibility assessments (with support)
- Provincial accessibility reporting (Destination BC tools)
- Operator resource development
- Inclusive tourism research and training
- Accessibility-focused communications and presentations
Youâll Gain
Experience in accessibility standards, inclusive tourism practices, applied assessments, and equity-focused development work.
4. Tourism Development Officer (Research & Destination Development)
This role supports tourism research, destination development planning, and visitor experience enhancement.
Focus Areas
- Tourism asset research and mapping
- Indigenous tourism and experience development support
- Campground and RV infrastructure inventory
- Connectivity and visitor information research
- Mapping and digital listing updates
- Destination development reporting
Youâll Gain
Experience in tourism research, destination planning, data analysis, and applied regional development strategy.
What All Roles Share
Across all four positions, students will:
- Work directly with real-world tourism and community projects
- Contribute to meaningful regional initiatives with visible outcomes
