Lakeland College’s School of Agricultural Sciences is seeking an equine instructor to lead curriculum development and delivery of the equine programming in the Animal Sciences Technology program.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and teach curriculum across classroom, lab, and field settings in areas such as equine handling, breeding management, cattle handling with horses, and feedlot production.
- Design, lead and evaluate western riding labs in the colt starting program.
- Prepare course materials and syllabi, create clear rubrics, and evaluate student learning through assignments, labs, and examinations.
- Instruct, mentor, and advise students in the Animal Science Technology program, fostering academic growth, professional readiness, and a passion for equine production.
- Work closely with farm staff and faculty to deliver hands-on learning experiences, including the Student-Managed Farm capstone course in equine production.
- Maintain open communication through office hours and digital platforms, encourage engagement, and cultivate a supportive, inclusive atmosphere where students can thrive.
- Participate in program and departmental meetings, professional development, and college-wide initiatives while maintaining strong, positive working relationships with deans, chair, faculty and staff.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agribusiness or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of industry experience and knowledge.
- Post-secondary teaching experience is an asset.
- Experience in advanced horsemanship, colt starting and horse production.
- Ability to communicate effectively with refined presentation and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Additional Information
Continuing Full time appointment starting on August 5, 2026, based on the Vermilion campus. Lakeland College offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, with salary commensurate with education and experience.
The competition will remain open until May 15, 2026, or until a suitable candidate is selected.
