Southwestern Manufacturing Inc. operates in a competitive global market producing wide ranging metal-based assemblies and components across a variety of industry sectors including but not limited to Mining, Oil & Gas, Crane and Drag-line Components, Agricultural, Machine building, and Heavy Equipment Manufacturing.
Increased over the years, our extensive plant capacity is spread across four facilities manned by over 200 employees. It incorporates shot blasting, stress relieving, fitting, welding, machining, non-destructive testing, final paint, right on through to our own logistics network, resulting in high value finished items across many diverse sectors.
Role Overview
Southwestern Manufacturing Inc. is seeking 1 permanent full-time (minimum of 40 - 48 hours per week) experienced Welding_ Technician_ to start as soon as possible. This position is required for the day shift, but we do operate on a rotating shift of days and afternoons.
Wage is negotiable depending on experience, education and certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain welding machines and related equipment, including MIG, TIG, Stick, plasma cutters, and wire feeders.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic issues in welding equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and optimal performance.
- Calibrate welding machines and verify output parameters such as voltage, amperage, and wire feed speed.
- Replace or repair faulty components including cables, torches, regulators, control boards, and cooling systems.
- Test repaired equipment to confirm proper operation and compliance with safety and performance standards.
- Maintain service records, repair logs, and parts usage documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures when working with high-voltage equipment and hazardous materials.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operators regarding proper equipment use and basic troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, or vendors for warranty repairs or specialized service when required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of welding machines, power sources, and welding processes.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with electrical components such as transformers, rectifiers, inverters, and control systems.
- Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic tools, and electrical testing equipment (multi-meters, amp meters).
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on safety and quality.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical personnel.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical diploma or certification in welding technology, electrical, electronics, or industrial maintenance preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience repairing industrial welding equipment
- Welding equipment manufacturer training or certifications are an asset.
- Hands-on welding experience is considered a plus but not required.
Working Conditions
- Shop setting with exposure to noise, sparks, grinding debris, and moving equipment.
- Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have an attention for detail to ensure tight deadlines are met.
