MCSnet has been providing high-speed internet to rural communities for over 30 years. As Alberta’s homegrown internet service provider, our team understands the importance of investing in our local communities—because we live and work in them. We value our employees and their families because, to us, family and business are one and the same.
We are currently expanding and have an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Inventory & Asset Management Technician to join our MCSnet team. Reporting to the Field Operations Director, the Inventory & Asset Management Technician is responsible for the end-to-end supply chain functions supporting Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Wireless ISP (WISP) operations. This role ensures that field technicians are equipped with all necessary components—from OLTs and high-gain antennas to the smallest fiber patch cords—to maintain regional network connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Inventory & Asset Management Technician include, but are not limited to:
- Inventory Control & Auditing: Monitor stock levels of fiber optic components and wireless hardware to ensure continuous availability; execute regular physical audits and reconcile warehouse stock against the Inventory Management System (IMS).
- Asset Serialization & Lifecycle Tracking: Verify that all high-value serialized assets (ONTs, Routers, PoE injectors) are scanned and accurately assigned to specific locations, projects, or technician vehicles.
- RMA Management: Administer the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process for faulty equipment; track and report returned items to ensure accurate credit or inventory replacement with vendors.
- Operational Staging: Prepare and "kit" hardware for daily installation schedules, ensuring field crews possess all required components to meet deployment targets and reduce secondary service calls.
- Logistics & Receiving: Inspect incoming shipments for damage, verify documentation against purchase orders, and maintain organized storage to optimize warehouse workflow.
- Decommissioning & Recovery: Manage the intake of equipment recovered from canceled subscriptions, overseeing cleaning and refurbishing protocols to support asset recovery and reuse.
- Fleet Support: Audit and replenish hardware kits assigned to technician vehicles to ensure field staff have consistent access to necessary materials and equipment.
- Operational Support: Assist management in achieving departmental KPIs through meticulous inventory accuracy and the optimization of asset availability.
Qualifications:
Include but are not limited to:
- Training: High School Diploma or equivalent required; an Associate degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or IT is preferred.
- Experience:
- 1–3 years of proven experience in warehouse management, asset tracking, or logistics, preferably within the Telecommunications or electronics sectors.
- Demonstrated experience assisting management in achieving departmental targets through meticulous resource management and inventory accuracy.
- Technical Literacy: Foundational understanding of FTTH architecture (GPON/XGS-PON) and WISP hardware; ability to identify specialized fiber components and wireless equipment.
- Systems Expertise: Advanced capability in Excel and Google Sheets; experience utilizing barcode or RFID-based Inventory Management Systems and enterprise database tools.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to safely operate a forklift in a warehouse environment and physically move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Regional Knowledge: Specific understanding of the Alberta telecommunications infrastructure landscape and provincial utility work environments.
- Licensing & Conduct: Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean commercial abstract and maintain a clean criminal record check.
- Certification: Valid Forklift Operator certification is preferred; experience with RFID scanning systems is an asset.
