Job Purpose
The Quality Control function at Smiths Interconnect supports manufacturing operations by performing incoming, in‑process, and final inspections to ensure products meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
This is a full‑time, fixed‑term position for a duration of one (1) year.
The role executes Customer Source Inspection (CSI), First Article Inspection (FAI), high‑reliability testing, and related quality activities while contributing to compliance, continuous improvement, and on‑time delivery objectives.
Responsibilities
- Perform incoming inspection of raw materials and components.
- Conduct in‑process and final inspections in accordance with drawings, procedures, and specifications.
- Execute Customer Source Inspections (CSI) and First Article Inspections (FAI).
- Perform visual inspections using microscopes and precision tools.
- Handle and test highly sensitive and delicate equipment to define quality criteria.
- Accurately collect, document, and store inspection and test data.
- Prepare Certificates of Compliance (CoC) and customer‑specific quality documentation.
- Maintain product serialization and traceability records.
- Follow documented data‑collection and record‑retention procedures.
- Identify, document, and elevate non‑conformances.
- Initiate and support corrective actions (NCR/CAR).
- Assist in root‑cause investigations and verification of corrective measures.
- Assist with supplier evaluations and incoming quality concerns.
- Support internal and external ISO audits by providing documentation and inspection evidence.
- Support contract review activities related to quality requirements.
- Perform minor mechanical assembly, labeling, and final packaging of products.
- Prepare finished goods for transfer to Stores or Shipping.
- Support achievement of daily and weekly shipping targets.
- Comply with company Quality Management System, Health & Safety, and security requirements.
- Perform other quality‑related tasks as assigned.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Vocational/technical training in manufacturing, electronics, or mechanical inspection. Preferred.
Additional Qualifications
Preferred, some experience with internal audits
2 years of experience in Quality Control, manufacturing, or inspection roles
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Basic knowledge of quality control principles, inspection methods, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, procedures, and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of visual inspection techniques, including use of microscopes and magnification tools for fine and precision components.
- Familiarity with serialization, labeling, traceability, and documentation requirements in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of product conformity, non‑conformance identification, and corrective action processes (NCR/CAR support).
- Basic computer skills for data entry, inspection records, and quality documentation systems.
- Ability to handle and test delicate, sensitive, or high‑reliability components while maintaining product integrity and cleanliness standards.
- Ability to use measurement tools such as calipers, depth gages, etc.
- An in‑depth understanding of AS9102 FAIs
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
