Job Overview

Marina Leads are responsible for safely docking visiting vessels, performing the general maintenance operations of the marina facility, and carrying out hospitality and customer service duties. The Marina Leads play an essential part of our business by ensuring the safe arrival and departure of vessels, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and acting as an ambassador our Marinas. As Marina Lead, the employee will assist the General Manager with supervision of the Dockhands and assists guests when the General Manager is off duty. The Marina Lead will also assist and oversee the Dockhands performing a variety of maintenance duties such as, but not limited to painting, groundskeeping, and custodial duties. The Marina Lead will assist Dockhands in using existing skills and/or learn how to tie knots, operate vessels, communicate over VHF marine radio, and other basic maritime skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with marina management, conduct all Dockhand tasks and oversee Dock hands in performing the safe dockage of private yachts and vessels by communicating over VHF radio and tying proper dock lines and fenders
- Perform daily dock check list which includes inspecting docked vessels such as dock lines, electrical cords and fenders to ensure safety, reviewing all public areas are free of safety hazards, clean and in good repair
- A variety of Marina office administration tasks not limited to collecting payment from marina and/or inn guests and retail provisional sales including daily cashouts and submission of daily deposits to the accounting department, opening and closing of the marina office (key holder), checking and posting weather and tide conditions, moorage coordination for rendezvous, moorage and inn check-ins/checkouts, prepare slip assignments and invoice for arriving transient guests and for long term moorage contracts, compiling and communicating correspondences from contract moorage guests, acting as front desk/receptionist for inn and marina coordination and office supply orders
- Operation of the sewage pumping system as required
- Support the Dockhands with the care of dock facilities, assist transient vessels for overdue moorage.
- Assist and direct the Dockhands with routine maintenance and cleaning duties including trash removal that meet established quality standards for all marina related operations including restrooms, docks, walkways, ramps, equipment and other areas designated by management
- Monitor the security of the marina including the unauthorized entry of vessels and people, logging incident reports, vessel inspections, fob activation and disbursements,
- Assist and support special events/activities taking place at the marina
- Operation of the marina work boat as required
- Be willing to pitch in as needed and when needed. This role requires directing team members to utilize their time to the best of their ability, ensuring they support in a variety of ways to ensure the guest customer service experience is unmatched. This may involve picking up garbage, weeding / yard maintenance, support in setting up for events, sweeping/washing docks, restocking the gift shop, operating a point of sales system, cleaning washrooms, etc
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic nautical terminology or the ability to learn such skills quickly
- Line handling skills including ability to tie bowline, half hitch knots, toss and cleat lines
- Operate a variety of equipment such as pressure washers, saws, drills, drain routers and other equipment related to the maintenance of docks including fire and safety equipment and/or fuel spill plan
- Boat handling skills or the ability to learn such skills quickly
- Prior experience in marine industry or related field
- Customer service experience preferred
- Ability to use a PC and/or tablet

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Operate equipment pertinent to job duties
Physical Demands of the Job:
This position will require standing for long periods of time, pushing, lifting, and pulling heavy objects. This position may also demand working around and utilizing cleaning agent
