Essex County Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic

SUMMARY:
The Essex County Nurse Practitioner – Led Clinic (ECNPLC) provides primary health care services to the residents of Windsor, Essex, Amherstburg, Kingsville and their surrounding communities.
The Medical Receptionist provides secretarial support to other team members in the clinic and works within an interdisciplinary team. He/she collaborates with all team members and reports to the Executive Director.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
- Performs clerical support for the interdisciplinary providers including electronic chart management, follow-up calls, and other external organizations on behalf of the team.
- Answers phones promptly and uses knowledge of clinic phone system to redirect calls.
- Greets patients upon their arrival to the clinic.
- Enters file updates in the electronic medical record.
- Books appointments and follow ups in the electronic medical record.
- Demonstrates an awareness of relevant legislation specific to the work assignment.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of information.
- Ensures safe disposal of confidential material.
- Filing as deemed necessary.
- Ensures demographic data in the electronic medical records is updated when required at each visit.
- Communicates with clinic staff, external agencies and the general public
- Ensures that phone and reception area is covered at all times unless otherwise directed by the Clinical Director or Executive Director.
- Checks phone system upon morning arrival to determine urgently needed returned calls and to screen for staff illness calls.
- Notifies Executive Director and/or Clinical Director of any staff illness to allow for expedient caseload screening and appointment cancellations.
- Checks clinic fax machine and electronic medical records system each morning and periodically throughout the day. Notifies clinical staff as necessary re: urgent items.
- Forwards paper copies of received notes and results to clinical team member (e.g.: from specialists, lab, etc.) while simultaneously entering into patient chart in PDF format.
- Calls clients with cancellations and booking changes as needed.
- Arranges for referrals as needed. This includes documenting appointment in the electronic medical record and notifying the patient.
- Enters data with both efficiency and accuracy.
- Demonstrates familiarity with medical terminology.
- Performs OHIP billing for medical staff
- Becomes proficient with all clinic software programs and associated functions.
- Works collaboratively with other clinic staff.
- Undertakes continuing education including self-study to improve skills and abilities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
· College diploma/certificate or equivalentin related field.
· Medical Terminology/OHIP Billing certificate or equivalent.
· Ability to work flexible schedule.
· Minimum of two to four years of experience preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
· Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications.
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Excellent written and oral communication.
· Current police clearance for adults and children.
· Second language would be an asset.
