Geotechnical Engineer
Engineering () – Red Lake
Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the successful candidate will work 14:14 roaster and will be responsible for providing geotechnical assessment and guidance to the engineering team and mine operations to support the safe development of the mine to achieve and surpass production targets while adding value to the Red Lake Madsen mine
The Focus of this role will include:
- Lead the geotechnical engineering efforts within the engineering team to ensure all designs and execution guidance conform to the requirements of the Ontario OH&S; Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants as well as all approved company policies and procedures
- Maintain and update the mine’s Ground Control Management Plan annually
- Collaborate with Geology to maintain and update the mine’s geotechnical models
- Provide stope geometry guidance based on localized rock characteristics and stress distributions for the various mining zones as well as needed ground support designs
- Review the LOM designs for various mining block, perform numerical modelling and analysis to provide stope sequencing guidance for each mining block
- Perform underground tours and assessments of established workings and pillar to provide support and stability rehabilitation plans to promote the safety of workers and machines
- Support the conceptual presentations for development and stopes by providing the needed geotechnical assessment and stope sequence guidance
- Lead the ground control management QA/QC for continuous improvement
- Generate and maintain all ground control management procedures for the mine
- Lead seismicity assessment for the mine to guide development of the mine using suitable mining methods to promote the safety of people and machines
- Conduct weekly underground workings inspections to guarantee safe workings within the mine
Skills and Experience:
- A B.Sc Mining Engineering or equivalent is essential and a P.Eng. qualification is a must have or ability to gain P.Eng.
- Minimum 5 years experience in an underground mine and minimum 2 years experience in a similar role
- Strong appreciation of rock mechanic principles
- Proficient in the use of modelling softwares such as Map3D and Phase2 to assess mining sequences
- Strong knowledge and experience with various ground support systems and their applications
- Robust experience with paste and cemented rock fill backifilling of voids
- Knowledge of the use of mine design software, preferably Deswik
- Sound judgement and analytical skills especially in 3D space
