Homestar Building Supplies is seeking a dependable and motivated Yard Hand to support our operations. This hands-on role involves handling materials, organizing inventory, and assisting across different company buildings. Your work ensures the smooth, safe, and efficient flow of materials throughout our facilities.
Location: Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Canada
Position: Full-Time, Permanent
What You’ll Do:
- Responsible for all incoming inventory as well as the proper storage of inventory in lumberyard and warehouses by yard personnel. Will review all packing slips to ensure that merchandise is correct by vendor, type of product and quantities. Notifies Assistant Manager of shortages or damage of incoming inventory when applicable.
- Responsible for maintaining correct inventory levels and reporting any areas of concern to the supervisor.
- Directs yard personnel in loading, unloading and movement of inventory in the yard utilizing fork trucks and other equipment.
- Accurately build loads in advance for all deliveries to locations.
- Inspects loading operations for outgoing delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits and safety regulations; reviews all packing slips for accuracy.
- Load materials on to company delivery vehicles, after validating type and quantity based on the record of the transaction.
- Responsible for ensuring the inventory in the yard area and warehouses are maintained, organized, and stored in accordance with Company standards (i.e., work and customer areas are transparent of trash, weeds, or other obstacles to allow for a safe and clean work environment).
- Completes required inspections and forms to comply with the Company’s overall safety and operation standards.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or co-workers.
- Perform any other assigned job duties, responsibilities or tasks as requested by the supervisor.
What We’re Looking For:
- Knowledge of building materials, applications, related equipment, and/or construction industry is required.
- Forklift experience preferred as many of the tasks require forklift operations to be performed. Will train the right candidate.
- Follow safety expectations set by company safety policies consistent with the storage, handling, and transport of materials.
- Regular, reliable, dependable attendance.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to provide professional customer service and work in a team-oriented environment.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Two (2) years of experience with a lumber company or equivalent experience in similar field.
- An acceptable driving record, with a valid driver’s license.
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
- Flexibility to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment, working with multiple team members.
Work Environment:
- This position requires standing and walking most of the day.
- The physical demand of the position requires an individual to have the ability to bend, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and be able to frequently lift.
- Subject to typical warehouse environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
