Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
The Director of Research and Academics is currently seeking a Research Scientist – Implementation. The purpose of the position is to support Waypoint’s strategic directions by advancing and applying implementation science to translate research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient experience into routine practice across a complex mental health care organization. The position will lead strategic, system-level implementation initiatives aimed at improving the quality, effectiveness, and sustainability of services across inpatient and acute care settings, as well as outpatient, community-based programs. This includes building strong partnerships with clinical, operational, patient, and other system stakeholders; applying implementation science theories, models, and methods to address practice and service delivery challenges; and using data and evidence to inform decision-making. This work will also contribute to advancing Waypoint as a Learning Health System by strengthening the organization’s ability to learn from implementation efforts and continuously improve care and outcomes. The successful candidate will develop a program of research that builds and sustains organizational capacity for implementation science and practice across Waypoint.
Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work workplace consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St in Penetanguishene, ON.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Design, develop, manage, and direct large-scale implementation science, evaluation, and position-specific research projects
- Foster effective relationships and interactions between knowledge creators and users, and co-lead implementation teams comprising of research staff, clinical and non-clinical staff, and patients
- Build a program of research using implementation science models and frameworks
- Carry out scholarly work, including writing grants, writing research papers, preparing presentations and publications, presenting research at conferences and seminars, participating in stakeholder meetings, and writing and editing high quality implementation science content
- Promote the value of Learning Health System (LHS) models and frameworks
- Liaise and facilitate partnerships between local practitioners in implementation fields and network with experts in the field of implementation science
- Stay up to date with, and participate in the development of, methodological approaches for implementation science, and follow research, practice, and patient trends to identify potential implementation projects
- Supervise students and/or trainees to build organizational capacity in implementation science and practice
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in mental health, substance use, public health, and/or related disciplines, including experience with the practical and theoretical principles of implementation science and practice
- Minimum five(5) years’ related research experience.

- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
