YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates one overnight camp on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Employees and volunteers of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario are ambassadors for the Y both on and off the job. Position: 1 to 1 Counsellor
Location: Petrolia YMCA
Start Date: June 1, 2026
End Date: August 31, 2026
Salary: $18.30/hour

In this role, you will:
- Providing direct support to children with special needs
- Managing behavioral incidents and implementing behavioral redirection strategies
- Communicating regularly with camper families
- Developing program inclusion strategies to create a successful camping experience for inclusion campers
- Act as resource to day camp staff team in terms of inclusive programming
- Full and active participation in all camp activities
- Participation in weekly staff meetings
- Weekend introductory phone calls to assigned camper
- Willing to work in indoor, outdoor and aquatic environments
- Be on your feet for the majority of the workday, walking, running, jumping, active playing. At locations that have pools or splash pads, staff are expected to be in the water with the children
- Follow all Health & Safety and Child Protection policies to keep the camp a safe place for all
What you need to succeed:
- Experience working with children in a Day Camp Setting
- Current Emergency First Aid or higher
- Must provide a current criminal record check as per the Association’s policy
- A dedication to demonstrate the YMCA core values
